June 17, 1928: Amelia Earhart Takes Off on Landmark Flight
On this day in 1928, Amelia Earhart began her transatlantic flight, the first by a woman. Earhart and her team left from Trepassey Harbor in Newfoundland and landed in Burry Port, Wales, nearly twenty one hours later. The landmark flight made headlines around the world.
When the crew returned to the United States, they were greeted with a parade in New York and enjoyed a reception at the White House with President Calvin Coolidge. This monumental flight made “Lady Lindy” the best known female flier and one of America’s first celebrities.
Three weeks before her 40th birthday, Earhart disappeared over the Pacific Ocean and her story became legend.

Meet the Forty Elephants.
This is the name of a gang based out of London. With bedecked knuckles of diamond rings, the leader “Diamond Annie” (real name Alice Diamond) led this fierce all-female force of shoplifters that terrorized high quality stores in the West End of London and in other cities.
Also, here are two members of the Forty Elephants:
Florrie Holmes
Maggie Hughes
From about 1873 - 1950 (though, there are some indications of reports as early as the late 1700’s), these women - with their specially tailored suits and their fast cars (when the 20th century rolled around) were virtually unstoppable and went nearly undetected from police.
They were ruthless and pitiless when it came to their “turf”. If anyone was caught stealing from one of their stores, they would arrange beatings and even kidnappings until the money was paid.
They were rebellious, decadent, and knew how to have a good time. They loved to throw lavish parties and even more they loved to live it up at the finest pubs and restaurants.
They were incredibly smart and maintained avoiding police detection by using fake names and rarely wearing what they stole. They usually bought high fashion clothes for themselves and sold what they stole.
Sometimes, they went into partnership with the all-male “Elephant and Castle Mob.
Which in turn, made it even more difficult for police to apprehend them. These women ran one of the largest operations of organized shoplifting their country had ever known. And yet, some of us are *just barely* hearing about them.
My God, when will there be a movie, dangit.
But a female protagonist of GTA is unrealistic doe?

Hello~!
I’m in no dire straights, but budget this month has no extra room for a 3DS I’d like to buy to play Animal Crossing New Leaf or Pokemon X & Y this fall. I’d like to earn a little extra cash to get those, so I’m willing to draw for it!
Pencil sketch: $10
Inked sketch: $20
Life has me busy again, between living situation changes, work (all varieties), and running up and down a mountain working on masquerade ball costumes down time is watching TV and taking a moment to veg.
So here’s a doodle of a round tailed ground squirrel on a post-it note I did at work.

The release date for Clariel, the newest book in Garth Nix’s Old Kingdom Trilogy, is September 2014.
Everyone should be excited about this, and if you don’t know what I’m talking about go read Sabriel. Just seriously, go read it, it’s a big deal.
The newest WHAT
YES IT’S SET 320 YEARS BEFORE SABRIEL. BEFORE THE STONES BROKE.
Before they BROOOOKKEE.
I honestly don’t generally read fanfiction, I happen to be particularly bad at finding good ones and found myself scarred at a young age by the sudden odd behavior of my favorite characters. Sometimes there are good ones, like The Good Host Dilemma written by a dear friend and talented author.
All I will say is if you ever though “I think Howl should meet the Christomancy, that would be amazing.” You should go read this. Or if you love Diane Wynne Jones, you should go read it. K.L.A manages to write this little fic with the voice of Jones and a just as much whimsy.
I’m going to plug her other work too, they are fun and intriguing and her book Moving Pictures is a great story of early Hollywood.
